Course Descriptions

General Music

A lecture formatted class on Music history, industry, and literacy.

 

Ukulele

Students will learn the fundamentals of learning a string instrument through playing ukuleles. Skills covered include tab reading, chord reading, basic music literacy, and performance skills.

 

Band (honors credit available)

Prerequisite - prior band experience or approval from the band director

This course develops skills in instrumental musicianship on all woodwind and brass instruments. The general expectation is that a student taking band will register for both semesters, exceptions to this can be made if scheduling conflicts arise for curricular needs or other curricular interests. In the Fall semester, students are required to be members of the marching band/pep band. Students may take this course every semester.

Honors Requirement - Students must prepare all-district or all region jazz audition material in the Fall. Student playing tests will be at the equivalent of a non-honor test one grade higher if applicable.

 

Percussion (Honors Credit Available)

Modern Band

Modern Band Is a module-based course were students are required to learn a variety of instruments ranging from piano, bass guitar, ukulele, and guitar. This class is focused on individual musicianship but will have class projects that involve preparing songs as a small ensemble. 

Honors Requirement - Students must pass an introductory test on the first week of class to pass out of introductory units. Each module will have additional honors level requirements to be completed if taking the honors option for the course.
